Hi, My name is Aimée Gramblin. I’m a veteran wife (18 years and counting), badass mama jama of two kids (a teen and a tween), a writer, a nature enthusiast, and a curious soul. I’m a first generation Oklahoman, in the United States. I’ve almost moved out of state three times, but got cold feet each time. We almost moved to Atlanta, Georgia; Memphis, Tennessee, and Swansea, Wales — all for school related opportunities. We ended up moving from Norman, Oklahoma to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where we’ve lived for almost fifteen years now. It’s green, slightly hilly, a bit more progressive…
Aww, we are so happy to have you! <3
Greetings, Readers and Writers,
The image above is taken on 11th Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I live, which is also the famous Route 66. There are a lot of small stores popping up as Tulsa tries to revitalize this kinda down-trodden area. This statue is of the fictional character, Buck Atom, and stands outside Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios store. I’d like to get out more this spring to take photos around town. It’s something I really enjoy doing. If you also enjoy taking photos, I suggest you check out the publication Snapshots and consider contributing your photo essays there.
Hope you all are having a fabulous start to the weekend from wherever you currently reside!
I wanted to pop into Everything Shortform to let you know I’ve completed my Novella series about the family of Gabriella, Aleks, Tomas, and Elena.
This is my first longer work of fiction. I plan to set it aside for a bit and come back to it to revise and possibly submit it for publication. It’s currently about 14,500 words and, from my research, shorter novellas are in the 30,000–50,000 words range. I’ve got the bones — now it needs to be fleshed out.
Interesting. This is the first state I've read about that has legalized marijuana and has a supply problem.
“You will know in your hearts who will listen. You will understand who the helpers are. You will know in your hearts if someone’s dangerous. To keep your magic, you must keep your authentic truth and intuition intact.”
With those wise words, Gram’s Gram turns into lines and shadows, small molecules, and then nothing, disappearing into the ether of the in-between. Gabriella knows she and her family cannot stay in this liminal space, no matter how much she longs for the in-between familiarity and safety.
Gram says, “You know, she looks over us. Always. …
I believe I first discovered Lindsay Soberano-Wilson through Age of Empathy. I’m impressed with her diversity of topics. She’s an accomplished poet, feminist, sex-positive thinker, mother, and creative. She has an upcoming poetry + memoir forthcoming: Casa de mi Corazón: A Travel Journal of Poetry & Memoir. Follow Lindsay for updates.
Lindsay’s bio states, “Top Writer in Feminism & LGBTQ. I write poetic stanzas & paragraphs on Motherhood | Relationships | Travel | Education | Mental Health | Storytelling | Sex-Positivity. BA, BEd, MA in Lit.”
Let’s get into her work!
When I worked as a receptionist in an oil-valve repair shop, straight out of college with my English degree, not knowing where to go next, I learned about Heraclitus.
“How you doin’ darlin’?”
“Eh, I’m okay, Tom.”
“Well, cheer up, doll. You know what they say. The only constant in life is change.”
“Oh, I like that.”
We hung up. I reminded myself I wouldn’t be a receptionist forever. Life is full of uncertainty and unpredictability. Change is constant. That’s the only true guarantee of life. Nothing stays the same.
When my son was seven years old, and my daughter…
