I also first heard this break on the radio, and it was in the middle of the story. I assumed it was a fictional reading special. It took me several minutes to concede with my boyfriend at the time, now husband, that it was really happening.
We went into Cici's Pizza where the TV was on and the live footage aired. I did what I do when faced with overwhelming information--zoned out--while David watched intently and did what he does when overwhelmed--collect information.
Thanks for writing about your experience. It's something I've yet to write up. I also live/d in Oklahoma and was in 9th grade during the bombing in OKC. I think it was 9th grade when I truly began to feel unsafe in my country--school shootings and bombings in the US. It was intense.
