I think you're right. Most humans want the feeling of satisfaction that comes with completing tasks. A lot of that satisfaction can be derived from non-traditional work tasks, too. I'd love to spend my days choosing from various work opportunities--mentor youth on nature walks? Yes. Teach a small group of aspiring writers at the park. Yes. Cook for people? No. Spend a day resting? Yes. Help someone open up a shop? Maybe.
Also, I believe every human should have our basic needs met no matter what. If you live your life asleep and not giving back, so be it. I don't think the majority would spend their time checked out.
The thrust is, with a different system we could be much happier. There'd by problems, because every system has them. But, our current system does suck and we aren't cut out for it.
