…oops in the sea, watching them stagger ashore, as automatic weapons cut them down to a bloody pulp. One soldier is hit in the helmet. Thinking himself lucky, he removes it, only for a second bullet to strike his skull. Another man staggers around in shock, looking for the arm that’s just been blown off and uselessly picking it up with his other arm. A young soldier lies on the sand with his stomach blown open and his intestines spilt, crying for his mother. All this from the director of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)? I was shocked to my core.

Right. I don’t know what I was thinking when I requested seeing this on a family vacation. I was aged 20. This film felt like a physical assault. It was hard to watch.
