Thank you, Will! I tend to the anxious side and we chose to keep our kids home for the first semester. It was not easy. And, they're 10 and 13. In hindsight, we would have put them in school earlier had it been an option, but we didn't feel we had enough evidence that it was safe.
At this point, it feels safe, and we were all so much happier when they returned to in-person 4day/week learning last March. For the first time ever, summer break came too fast, and I think everyone is looking forward to school starting back up mid-August.
I think part of the immense societal fear surrounding what to do about Covid-19 and our children is that one death of one child is too many. Our mama and papa bear instincts kicked in (for those opposed to in-person learning) and we didn't want to risk it, no matter what.
But, you're right, the science is there, and it's time to get our kids back to school.
