Yes! Do you remember how you first found HP? I wasn't interested in the "kids' series" until my Great Aunt Rosalie from Kalamazoo sent me the hardcover version because she loved it so much.

She sweetly sent letters and checks, but never stuff. I figured I better read it.

My first year of college was 96/97. I worked at a retirement home, peopling the front desk (over manning), and I think I probably read Book 1 there.
